For the first time in its modern history, Turkey has fallen short of grain production due to the drought caused by global warming. Data shows Turkey has lost 1.7 billion YTL in grain production and $750 million in vegetable and fruit production this year. Turkish Agriculturists' Association President İbrahim Yetkin has announced that for the first time in its modern history, Turkey has become dependent on other countries for grain and fruit consumption this year.
Stating that global warming and the excessive drought has affected the agriculture sector more than expected, Yetkin said "the country is entering a difficult era for agriculture products. Wheat production has already decreased by 15 per cent. During the next few years, cotton production will suffer from the same problem." |
