British Queen Elizabeth II was welcomed by a very different country when she came to visit Turkey 37 years ago. The Queen had visited Turkey seven months after the diplomatic note on March 12th, 1971. At that time, the income per capita was only $481. The population has doubled as of the year 2007 and reached 70 million. The Turkish economy has now reached $650 billion. When the Queen came in 1971, the Bosphorus Bridge and highway did not exist at that time. The country had just overcome the coup on March 12th. |
