Political parties are being criticized for not having enough woman candidates; their manifestos are being examined. The Association of Women (Ka-Der) will announce their views after the manifestos of all parties are publicized.
The Ak Party, in its election manifesto, limits its vision only with the violence within the family. The party has declared that: "violence within the family and honor killings will not be tolerated," which resembled the promises within CHP's manifesto. The CHP also promises to abolish all kinds of violence against women. The MHP, which promises to nationalize cartoons and computer games, does not have any undertakings publicized for women.
The AKP has announced that they will continue with their policy of the firm individual, firm family structure and firm society. Their single promise for preventing violence against women is to increase the number of places for their protection. They say that the income from the products of nonworking women will be exempt from tax, while there are no undertakings for working women. The AKP also promises to support non-governmental organizations.
The CHP seems more challenging about violence against women. The party claims that "Turkish women will have the deserved rights and position in economy, education and politics." They also, like the AKP, say that they will not tolerate any kind of violence against women, including honor killings. They promise a planned approach on this subject, which will be applied to reality with determination. They also promise widespread protection houses and psychological support free of charge. In the CHP manifesto, it is also asserted that the equality between the sexes will be provided.
The MHP does not place the matter about women properly in its manifesto. The propositions of the MHP are to heighten the level of education for women and positions for them will be provided so that they will be present in the social mechanism.
The Association of Women (Ka-Der) examined the election manifestos of the political parties, first of all the AKP and the CHP. A member of the managing committee of the association, Semiha Öztürk said, "We have been examining the place of women in the manifestos announced. But we are equally close to each party, so we are waiting for all of the to publicize their manifestos." |
