Claims surrounding the cause of death of the owner of Istanbul's Gold Refinery, Ömer Halaç, has aroused debate. The Ministry of Health stated that the patient might have died due to a late diagnosis and having been given the wrong medication; however, the hospital's doctors have refuted the claims. Halaç passed away at the Acıbadem Bakırköy Hospital on May 11th. Infection specialist Nevin Sarıgüzel Sar stated that the patient checked in on May 5th; the gastroenterology specialist had hospitalized the patient for a further examination however upon the patient's refusal, the examination was carried out on May 7th.
