Nuri Bilge Ceylan was the recipient of the Best Director award at the 61st Cannes Film Festival for his film entitled "Three Monkeys." The Turkish director attended the ceremony with his wife and in his acceptance speech, he said: "I dedicate this award to my lonely and beautiful country." Ceylan received his award from Faye Dunaway. Previous winners include, Yılmaz Güney, who won the Golden Palm award for his movie entitled "The Road" and Fatih Akın, who was awarded for Best Script with his movie entitled, "The Edge of Heaven."
