The state run news agency says a gas explosion at an obstetrics hospital in southeastern Turkey has killed one person.

The Anatolia news agency said the explosion occurred Saturday during maintenance work in the hospital's basement and killed a gas company employee.

None of the women and children staying at the hospital was harmed, but all patients were moved to other hospitals for safety.

Anatolia said pressurized gas in one of the pipes caused the explosion.
