One of the most poignant moments of the day's celebrations was when Fadime Akkuş, a headscarf wearing student who was salutatorian, was handed her diploma by Adıyaman Garrison Commander Gendarmerie Colonel Yusuf Yalçın. Akkuş commented on the event by stating, "I really loved the commander's approach, he greeted me warmly."
