TURKISH LEFT-WING EXTREMISTS JAILED IN GERMANY

A German court Thursday sentenced three Turkish left-wing militants to prison terms for raising arms funds for a foreign "terrorist" group, as well as recruiting other extremists to their cause.
The regional superior court in Duesseldorf, western Germany, jailed a 36-year-old woman, identified only as Nurhan E., to seven years and nine months for being the leader of the outlawed Turkish far-left group DHKP-C in Germany.
Two others, 41-year-old Ahmet I. and 37 year-old Cengiz O., received jail terms of three years nine months and six years respectively for membership of the organisation, court spokesman Ulrich Eggers told AFP.
Between 2002 and 2008, the trio "raised money to finance the DHKP-C's armed struggle in Turkey, trained militants and recruited new members," the court said in a statement.
DHKP-C, or the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, has waged an armed struggle against the Turkish state since 1976 and is listed as a terrorist group by Ankara, the European Union and the United States.
Turkish authorities say it has killed dozens including two retired generals, a former justice minister and a prominent businessman.
It has been banned in Germany, which has the world's largest Turkish diaspora, since 1998.
