A steadfast resolution in the fight against terrorism was the message delivered in a state summit held yesterday in response to the PKK attack in Beytüşşebap, which resulted in the deaths of ten soldiers. President Abdullah Gül condemned the attack and stated, "Those who have made our nation suffer in the worst way possible will absolutely have to pay for this."
In his message in response to the attack, the president went on to state, "Despite the reforms and healthy democratic steps taken, they have applied violence and bloodshed to once again put their dirty ambitions on display. The separatist terrorist organization is playing a contemptuous game. Those internal and external supporters of this traitorous game will sooner or later understand that they have miscalculated and they will pay the price. It should also not be forgotten, that those who believe they have a cycle of opportunities will eventually be defeated."
THERE WILL BE A RESPONSE
Noting that this time the traitorous face of terrorism, which is nourished by blood and violence, has shown itself in Beytüşebap, Turkey's Grand National Assembly Speaker Cemil Çiçek stated that terrorists, who use weapons to try to disrupt peace and security will face the fiercest response from Turkey's security forces. "Turkey will never make concessions for terrorism. We will continue this struggle effectively until not a single terrorist wielding a weapon remains." Çiçek also stated that as Turkey continues this fight against terrorism, the nation will also continue to advance democracy and liberties and will further progress and develop.
Prime Minister Erdoğan sent a message of condolences to Chief of General Staff General Necdet Özel, stating, "May God have mercy on those soldiers who died as martyrs for their country."
In his message on the attack, Erdoğan stated the following: "I want everyone to be aware that Turkey will continue to fight against terrorism with determination.
No matter what insidious provocation or despicable scenario this terrorist organization, which has become the puppets for dark international circles, chooses to embrace, we will never allow for these perpetrators to attain their objectives."
REASON AND DETERMINATION
In the message emphasizing 'reason and determination' Erdoğan stated, "We will never fall into the traps of traitors trying to transfer their rage and hatred on our nation."Nationalist Movement Party, or MHP, Chairman Devlet Bahçeli also expressed a harsh reaction to the atrocious attack by stating, "Those that do not draw a line with terrorism or do not distance themselves from whomever is defiantly working to proliferate terrorism will soon be faced with the magnificence of the Turkish nation and its sanctions."
CONDOLENCES TO 'EVERYONE'
Peace and Democracy Party, or BDP, leader Selahattin Demirtaş also delivered an interesting message following the atrocious attack. Demirtaş stated, "I ask for God's mercy for all of those killed in Beytüşşebap and offer condolences for those close to them and their families in pain. We share everyone's suffering. A lesson needs to be learned by all from what has transpired and this issue needs to be approached conscientiously and ethically."
PRIME MINISTRY HOLDS BEYTÜŞŞEBAP SUMMIT
Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan and Chief of General Staff General Necdet Özel held a meeting at the Prime Ministry following the terrorist attack in Beytüşşebap in which ten soldiers died in the line of duty. No press announcement was made following the three hour meeting, however according to the information obtained, the Beytüşşebap attack was thoroughly discussed and the steps to be taken next were covered in detail.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has been working continuously since last night on clearing and landscaping Taksim Square and Gezi Park.
Explaining that the Gezi Park protests were planned six months ago, EU Minister Bağış states, “These protests are an attempt to trigger a move which will end in regime change in Turkey.” Bağış also discussed Prime Minister Erdoğan’s style with the Wall Street Journal.
They came by land, they came by sea, and they came to hear their Prime Minister speak. Yesterday’s Kazlıçeşme rally in support of Prime Minister Erdoğan saw over a million supporters come out to the square with AK Party and Turkish flags in hand, giving true sentiment to the figures of Erdoğan’s support rate.
Istanbul Governor Mutlu is calling on protesters to refrain from responding to calls on social media to gather in Taksim because he says; peace has been established once again in Istanbul.
Nearly a million Istanbul residents flocked out to see Prime Minister Erdoğan speak at an AK Party rally in Kazlıçeşme on Sunday. Istanbul residents want the vandalism of protesters destroying and setting the city on fire to come to an end as soon as possible. Meanwhile, they also support Erdoğan’s referendum proposal.
On the first presidential visit to Ardahan in 18 years, President Gül had the chance to comment on the European Parliament’s resolution vote on Thursday by stating, “When reacting they need to have enough information to realize what is what.”
The number one suspect accused of planning and staging the twin bombings in the Hatay town of Reyhanlı, which killed 52 people, Nasır Eskiocak as well as three other perpetrators were arrested on Friday.
Istanbul Governor Mutlu held discussions with protesters which started late Thursday night and went on into the early morning hours of Friday. There was no lapse in respect during the talks that were both peaceful and spirited. The main questioned asked was who ordered the use of disproportionate force.
After deliberations between Prime Minister Erdoğan and other government officials with a delegation representing the Gezi Park protesters which went on into the morning hours of Friday, a decision was reached to respect judicial rulings and citizens’ opinions. Bringing the Gezi Park protests to a close with a series of artistic events is also now on the agenda.
Foreign Minister Davutoğlu says the European Parliament resolution adopted on Thursday is unacceptable and should they notify Turkey of the resolution, then Turkey will instantly return the gesture.
At 2 pm on Thursday afternoon, a Turkish youth activist group ‘Bizim Çocuklar’ (Our Youth) orchestrated a protest of what they view as the double standard exhibited by western media outside the BBC’s Turkey Office in Istanbul’s prestigious Nisantaş neighbourhood.
Istanbul Governor Mutlu met with protesters after midnight on Thursday at a café along the Bosphorus.
AK Party Spokesman and Deputy Chairman Çelik told reporters after attending a meeting last night between Prime Minister Erdoğan and artists and other representatives of the Gezi Park cause, “There will be no measures taken in regards to Gezi Park until the judicial ruling has been finalized.”
Turkish artists and members of the Taksim Platform met with Prime Minister Erdoğan late on Thursday to discuss reaching a solution to the current occupation of Gezi Park in Taksim Square. Following the meeting, artists announced that Prime Minister Erdoğan pledged not to push ahead with plans to build over the park in Istanbul to build a replica Ottoman-era barracks until a court issued a final ruling on the project, in what they heralded as a positive sign after two weeks of protest. If the court rules in favor of the project, the decision to go ahead will then only be made after a referendum is held allowing citizens to voice their opinion on the redevelopment plans.
